New Delhi (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the nation on Monday to remain ready, united, and alert as the global fallout from the West Asia conflict looks set to persist.
Addressing the Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister compared the current geopolitical tension to the COVID-19 pandemic. “The effects of these difficult circumstances will last a long time. We must stay ready and united, just as we did during the pandemic,” he stated. He called on citizens to face the challenge with patience and perseverance, describing these traits as India’s core strength.
The Prime Minister warned that certain elements might exploit the crisis for undue advantage. Consequently, the government has placed all law enforcement and security agencies on high alert. Authorities are currently strengthening coastal security, border protection, cyber defenses, and strategic installations. PM Modi emphasized that a unified front between the government and citizens remains the only way to overcome these challenges.
Additionally, the Prime Minister requested state governments to monitor and penalize those spreading fake news, hoarding essential goods, or engaging in black marketing. “We must not let those who spread lies succeed,” he cautioned.
Highlighting the economic impact, PM Modi admitted that the three-week-old crisis creates significant hurdles for India. The conflict threatens global trade routes and India’s primary source of crude oil and gas. Furthermore, the Prime Minister expressed deep concern for the approximately one crore Indians living in the Gulf and the high number of Indian crew members on commercial vessels.
Regarding the safety of the diaspora, the Prime Minister confirmed he has held two rounds of talks with West Asian heads of state, who assured him of the full safety of Indian citizens. While acknowledging tragic loss of life and injuries during this period, he assured the House that Indian missions continue to provide every possible assistance to workers and tourists alike.
