Gumla: In the latest edition of the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the Kartik Oraon Tribal Kudukh School in Mangalo village, Sisai block, Gumla district, earning praise from both the school’s stakeholders and local villagers. The Prime Minister commended the school’s innovative approach to teaching in the students’ mother tongue and acknowledged the efforts of the teachers and villagers.
Speaking on the matter, PM Modi expressed his endorsement of the new education policy, emphasizing that language should no longer be a barrier to a child’s education. He advocated for teaching children in the language in which they feel most comfortable reading.
Referring specifically to Malgo village in Gumla district, the Prime Minister shared details about the unique initiative taken by the tribal village to provide education to its children in their native language. Arvind Oraon, the founder of the school, initiated teaching in the mother tongue to address the challenges faced by tribal children in understanding English. As a result, 300 tribal children are currently enrolled in the school, benefiting from an enhanced pace of learning.
Arvind Oraon established the school in Mangalo village in 2008 with the support of the local community, aiming to preserve and promote Kudukh language and culture. Despite facing challenges, the villagers generously donated land and provided financial support for the school’s establishment. While the school initially offered education up to class 10, it currently operates up to class 8 due to a lack of establishment permission.
The lack of basic facilities in the school has been a persistent challenge, but the acknowledgment and praise from PM Modi during ‘Mann Ki Baat’ have infused hope among the school management and villagers. They believe that the attention drawn to the school will prompt officials to address the crucial issue of basic facilities, ensuring a better learning environment for the students.
