Rural Development Minister reviews PMGSY projects with legislators of Kolhan

Seraikela: The pending projects of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Kolhan would be completed by December this year. The agencies concerned have been directed to construct roads within the deadline fixed by the government. This was informed by the rural development minister of Jharkhand Neelkanth Singh Munda on his visit to Seraikela on Friday. Munda held a Kolhan divisional departmental review meeting at the Seraikela Circuit House.

Speaking to scribes, Munda said the state government was committed to ensure the development of Jharkhand through quality roads. He said the government wanted the ministers of the state to visit every divisional office and hold meetings with the department officials and public representatives to review the progress and quality of road construction projects. Keeping this in mind, todays review meeting was called to find out the progress of PMGSY projects in Kolhan, he said.

The MLAs of Seraikela-Kharsawan informed Munda about the condition of roads in their constituencies. They also raised various issues obstructing the projects. At the conclusion of the meeting, Munda said the work being done in East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan was satisfactory. He said teams would be sent to places where projects are unduly delayed. The teams would inform the MLAs and district administration officials concerned about causes behind the delay in project completion. Once the problems are found out, administration and local legislators can resolve them through coordination.

Instructions have been given to the officials to ensure timely completion of projects through efficient spending of funds provided by the Rural Development Department, the minister said.
Munda said the department officials have been warned against compromising with quality. He said public representatives should be intimated about problems related to clearance by forest department or land acquisition. He further said that roads destroyed by natural calamities should be reconstructed after talks with the Crisis Management Department.

The MLAs who attended todays meeting included Menka Sardar, Kunal Sarangi, Laxman Tudu, Champai Soren, Dashrath Gagrai, Shashi Bhushan Samad, Niral Purty and Deepak Birua. Rural Development Department Secretary Avinash Kumar, DC of Seraikela-Kharsawan Chhavi Ranjan and DDC of Seraikela-Kharsawan Akansha Ranjan were also present at the meeting.

Liquor ban to be implemented in phased manner: Munda

Speaking on liquor prohibition, the minister said the number of liquor shops in the state would be reduced in a phased manner. He said liquor ban effected by the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar was not very successful since it was done in a single attempt. He said repeated and phased attempts are needed to ban liquor completed in the state.

Liquor is still being smuggled into the fringe areas of Bihar. This is why the government is planning to slowly reduce the number of liquor shops in Jharkhand so that the people are prepared psychologically for total prohibition, said Munda.
