Peace prevails in Jamshedpur, curfew eased

Jamshedpur, July 23: Seeing the curfew situation getting under control the district administration has decided to relax the curfew for 14 hours (6 am to 8 pm) on Friday in Jamshedpur barring the Mango Police station area, Ulidih PS, Azadnagar PS and MGM Police Station were the curfew will be relaxed for 7 hours (9 am to 4 pm).

�We have decided to extend the relaxation time seeing no fresh incident of violence and hope the situation will get under control by Friday�, said District Commissioner Dr. Amitabh Kaushal talking to the media persons on Thursday night.

Life in the�steel city returned back to normalcy after prohibition orders were relaxed at Mango locality, the apex point of�Monday�night’s communal violence. The residents took sigh of relief as they went to buy essential commodities.�

While prohibitory orders were relaxed� two times- between�8 am�and�10 am�and again from�2 pm�to�5 pm�in the Mango locality (comprising four police stations of Azadnagar, Mango, Ulidih and MGM) for the first time since Tuesday, the relaxation was between�10 am�to�6 pm�in the remaining�parts of the city. �

Crowds were seen mostly in grocery shops, roadside vegetable shops and near small eateries and also near fuel pump outlets in Mango. However, public transport was nil �in Mango. Financial establishments like banks and ATMs were however not opened even�today�in Mango.

While in rest of the city, there was mad rush of vehicles and automobiles at fuel pumps. Shops and commercial establishment including banks and ATMs could be seen opened. Public transport, mostly auto-rickshaws, were seen plying on the roads, albeit in small numbers in the city.

A vegetable seller in Dimna Road, Mango admitted that crowd was really heavy and he had not seen such a crowd in his life.

�Customer were almost falling on me. I had not seen so many crowds in my life and all were in a hurry to purchase vegetables,� said the seller.

A unruly �scene was also witnessed at several fuel outlets not only in Mango but in rest of city, as against norm, people came to fuel pumps with gallons and bottles for refilling in vehicles.

Suresh Sonthalia, president of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) said that all traders have been directed to open their shops.

�We are aware of the situation and we have requested medicine shop owners to open their shops in normal time,� said Sonthalia.
Dhalbhum SDO, Alok Kumar said the security has been beefed up. We will make sure that night time prohibiton continue in Mango and rest of the city.

�We are assessing the situation and will take a decision on relaxation time of prohibitory order as and when necessary,� said Alok Kumar.

Congress leader SRA Rizwi Chabban congratulated administration for timely action and ensuring safety of the people.�
