PATH’s presentation of Munshi Premchand’s ‘Bade Ghar Ki Beti’ an apt 144th birthday tribute

Jamshedpur, August 1: PATH is one such performing organization that is adept in serving theatrical delicacy on a silver platter. The team’s presentation of immortal story teller, Munshi Premchand’s ‘Bade Ghar Ki Beti’ kept this highly laudable tradition alive and proved to be an apt tribute to the wizard of the pen on his 144^th birth anniversary. The packed audience at the Ramdas Bhatta Community Centre gulped down the abundant drops of theatrical joy in the presentation.

Amitesh Kumar Singh’s theatrical adaptation of the Munshi Premchand story was executed with utmost sensitivity and subtlety, capturing the core emotions of the narrative. The live depiction of dialogues and scenes brought the story to life on stage, leaving a deep impression on the audience. ‘Bade Ghar Ki Beti’ is one of Premchand’s stories that highlights the depth of familial and social structures in Indian society, addressing issues of self-respect and emphasizing the importance of love, understanding, and sacrifice in relationships. The story illustrates how decisions made in anger can be detrimental.

The audience appreciated the presentation, with K. Darshan noting that the play reminded them of their own family experiences and revived Premchand’s literary heritage.

The performances of Mani Pradhan (Bhup Singh), Shyam Dev (Chandu Nai), Amitesh Kumar Singh (Beni Madhav), Vikas kumar (Lal Bihari), Adil (Shrikant), Varsha Kumari (Anandi), Shailendra Kumar (teacher) and Rupesh Kumar Prasad, Natasha Poddar and L Akriti as the three students, added the soul to the dialogues and situational requirements.

The stage setup was managed by Alok Khurshid Alam, with music arranged by Deepesh Kumar and Sankalp Mishra. Stage arrangements were handled by Martin Joseph and Rupesh Prasad. The play was adroitly directed by Shailendra Kumar who has fanned hopes for the future of theatre.

Chief guests included theatre thespian Hari Mittal along with Shahzad Sagar, Arvind Tiwari, Ashok, and Sanjay Mishra.
