Jamshedpur, March 27: Bistupur Main looked starkly different, with vehicles off the road and people turning up in large numbers to claim the streets on Sunday.
The second edition of Jam@Streets livened up the city on Sunday. Taking a cue from the �Rahagiri� organised at Gurgaon, Mumbai, and Bhubaneswar, the steel city has embraced the concept of vehicle-free streets on Sundays, under the banner Jam@Streets to promote good health, street food, sports and fun activity.
The crowd was bigger this time with around 15,000 footfalls with a number of new activities and sporting events and safety awareness. The maiden edition of Jam@Street which was organised on February 21, 2016, saw a rousing response with denizens hitting streets on early morning.
On health front medical staff representing the Tata Digital Health Services provided services with pathology services.
From checking blood pressure, weight, diabetes, it was a voluntary service where people also gave blood samples for a CDC (complete blood count) test.
On the other hand, Centre for Acupressure Treatment and Studies representatives gave a free demonstration of acupressure and made people aware of the benefits of the science. The Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala spread awareness about the benefits of Ayurveda.
There were medicine shops which gave discounts on medicines. This apart, yoga was also taught as a part of promoting healthy habits.
The Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) organised trolley racing, a team building and co-ordination exercise. The Tata Steel Sports department also made children try their hands in golf and boxing.
D46, a racing academy in Baliguma, Jamshedpur, motivated people to take up racing as a career. Youths here tried go carting as a new form of recreational activity. The activity was supported by Indico Motors, an ancillary unit of Tata Motors and Triple Point Engineering. Youngsters were also given tips to take up racing as one of the best career in sports.
The usual busy Bistupur Main Road wore a festive look as people from different walks of life participated in it.
Jam@Streets day is akin to a street festival with goodies which can be indulged in by the whole family.
It has sporting events like roller skating, badminton, basketball, yoga, cycling, aerobics, golf, carom, aerobics and much more. A selfie corner with cut outs of celebrities born at Jamshedpur was introduced for the first time, said an official of Jusco, the main organiser of the event.
