Jamshedpur: Social worker and well-known Madhuri Dixit fan Pappu Sardar celebrated Raksha Bandhan with 168 sisters from a wide cross section of society. His sisters also included several eunuchs.
Pappu celebrated the festival with the inmates of RP Patel Cheshire Home in Sundernagar, something which has now become an annual ritual. He also gave gifts to the inmates and sisters of Cheshire Home. From there, he went to Baradwari old age home and celebrated the festival with the inmates. Sweets were distributed among the inmates. Later, at his Manohar Chaat shop, he was visited by a huge number of women who tied Rakhi on his wrist.
Pappu said he learnt about the significance of the brother-sister relationship when he met Madhuri Dixit. Madhuri had told him that the relationship between a brother and sister is one of the strongest bonds in the world, he recalled.
Showing generosity, Pappu donated a tri-cycle to one Rakesh Kumar, a physically challenged person, who works at the Jamshedpur Civil Court. He said he would give a draft of Rs 21,000 to East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar to help the Kerala flood victims.
According to Aliya Parveen, a resident of Purani Basti, Jugsalai, I have been tying Rakhi on the wrist of my brother Pappu for the last 11 years. This time I did it at Cheshire Home and felt overwhelmed by the love showered on him by one and all.
