Jamshedpur: Bagbera panchayat residents Saturday opposed the allocation of liquor shop at Lal Building Chowk and demanded shifting of the shop elsewhere.
A delegation of panchayat representatives met East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner cum Returning Officer Amit Kumar and informed him that the liquor shop was allotted in a residential area. Several schools and academic institutions are situated in the locality and hence the allocation of shop for liquor business is unsuitable, said the delegates.
The DC assured to shift the liquor shop in the larger interest of the local residents after conducting an inquiry into the complaint.
Those who met the DC included Sunil Gupta, Pratima Munda, Prabha Hansda, Raju Besra and Joba Mardi.
