Painting is an inclination to create wonder on limitless canvas: Saurav Pramanik

Chandil, March 27: When people refer to distant, interior or obscure villages, their thought pattern is that of disinterest or plainly put, of disdain and they draw pictures of terrorists finding safe havens in such remote habitats. There is an iota of truth in their fears of extremist debauchery. However, promises and rise of certain individuals of these villages to national and international reckonings through their creative genius, hold out hopes for denizens with the creative instincts to bring recognition and glory to the hitherto ‘unrecognized’ world of unheralded births, lamentable living and ‘blessings’ in the form of death.

The man who has been adding an aura of appreciative recognition to Gamharia is young painter Saurav Pramanik whose canvases continue to draw gasps of appreciation at national and international competitive exhibitions. At an age when kids prefer toys, Saurav insisted on getting crayons, pencils, water colours and paints. Saurav credits his parents for fanning his creative zeal that has seen him gaining awards and recognitions galore. This remote Chainpur village resident in Gamharia block has not rested on his laurels and young Saurav sharpened his creative obsession at the famous Tagore School of Arts where he solved the intricacies and finer points for expression of feelings and observations in better light.

The COVID phase was a blessing in disguise for young Saurav as his experiences and observations earned him the national recognition of Corona Warrior for his sensitive art plates. ‘Shilpayan’ an organization dedicated to the promotion of art and artists, had organized an international painting competition in 2020 that saw the young artist walking away with the highest international honour.

Saurav Pramanik has become a youth idol and his paintings are attracting critical acclaim not only in Jharkhand but across the country. The people of the entire Kolhan Region are going gaga over young Saurav’s national and international achievements.

When discussions on art take place, Saurav and his creations become points of appreciative reference. One particular aspect of Saurav Pramanik’s paintings is his preference for the colour black. “I love deep black colour and I can express better with this tonal value.”

To ensure that his forte does not run out of creative gas, Saurav Pramanik visits the Joyda Mandir on the bank of Swarnrekha River or to the Chandil Dam for meditative sessions. “The peaceful atmosphere at these places, the solitude and aesthetic environs recharge my expressive zeal – the zeal without which my life will be meaningless,” said the young painter whose works draw worldwide attraction.

A simple, unassuming or rather, humble person by nature, Saurav has not allowed his national and international awards to go to his head. Perhaps, he spoke the language of success when he observed, “Indeed I am proud of my achievements but I cannot sit over my laurels. I have to continue with my passion for expression on canvas. I find great joy when people appreciate my language of colours and one cannot appreciate if the person does not understand what I want to convey. I try to keep my paintings relatable so that people can identify themselves or situations they face, the facets they have experienced.”

His success may be related to his philosophical bent of mind but then, expressionists in any mode have to live their expressive dreams through observations of life that lie between the lines. One needs to think differently to create. Saurav Pramanik is one such example who lets his paint brush do all the talking.
