Jamshedpur, April 10: Vivekananda International School hosted a three-day workshop titled “Physics Unplugged” where renowned physicist and Padma Shri awardee H.C. Verma inspired both teachers and students with his simple yet powerful approach to understanding science.
The workshop witnessed participation from over 70 TGT and PGT physics teachers representing various schools across the city. School administrator Soumya Deep stated that the initiative aimed to help educators and students connect physics with real-life experiences rather than limiting it to textbooks.
During an interactive session with Class 10 students, Dr. Verma emphasized that the true essence of physics lay in observing nature closely. On the first day, he, along with his associate Debmalya Sen, demonstrated fundamental principles using everyday objects such as bottles, paper, thread and water. Even complex topics like optics were explained through simple, engaging experiments that captured the audience’s interest.
The second day focused on electricity and magnetism, where textbook concepts were brought to life through practical demonstrations. Teachers were encouraged to actively participate, ask questions and develop a deeper conceptual understanding of the subject.
The final day was dedicated to open interaction, where participants engaged directly with Dr. Verma, receiving clear and insightful answers to their queries.
The success of the event was largely attributed to the vision and efforts of Soumya Deep, who took the initiative to bring Dr. Verma to Jamshedpur. His work in renewable energy research was also gaining recognition at the national level, making the workshop a truly inspiring academic endeavor.
