Noamundi, Nov 27: More than 5400 runners from across the country participated in the fourth edition of Noamundi Run-a-thon, the signature event of Tata Steel’s Ore Mines & Quarries (OMQ) division, which kicked-off at Sports Complex here on Sunday.
The 10K, 7K and 5K run categories were flagged-off by DB Sundara Ramam, Vice President (Raw Materials), Tata Steel in the presence of DB Sailaja Ramam, Atul Bhatnagar, General Manager, OMQ, Tata Steel and Surabhi Bhatnagar.
In line with this year’s theme ‘Building a Greener Tomorrow’, messaging in the Sports Complex and across the running track was done on eco-friendly biofabric material.
The Run-a-thon was held in 10 KM and 7 KM categories for men and women, 5 KM run for boys and girls between the age of 12 to 16 years from schools and colleges and 2 KM run for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). The winners in all three categories were awarded with trophies and cash prizes. Separate awards for PwDs were also distributed to all the runners in this category. Apart from this, top three local winners in all the categories were also awarded by the dignitaries.
The last physical edition of the Noamundi Run-a-thon was organised in 2019, wherein more than 5200 participated.
Among others present on the occasion were village heads, local residents, people from the peripheral villages of Noamundi and Joda, Tata Steel employees, their families and students from various schools & institutions.
“Noamundi is well-known for its scenic beauty and Tata Steel has actively contributed in restoring the flora and fauna of the region through various initiatives. The Noamundi Iron Mine has taken several initiatives fostering green belt and biodiversity in the region. Encouragement and support for sports at Tata Steel dates back nearly a century and is part of its culture. Tata Steel has been one of the foremost corporate promoters of Indian sports – having built academies for football, archery, athletics, hockey and sport climbing. In addition to the Noamundi Run-a-thon, Tata Steel has over the years championed the cause of fitness through several Run properties like Tata Steel Kolkata 25K Run, Bhubaneswar Half Marathon and Jamshedpur Run-a-thon across its operating locations to engage with the community through Sports,” said a company communique.
The next corporate run is scheduled at Kolkata on December 18, 2022.
