Jamshedpur: Heavy rainfall in Jamshedpur has not only disrupted daily life but also severely impacted rail services, as waterlogging at the Tatanagar railway yard forced the South Eastern Railway to cancel over 20 trains. In addition, several train services have been either diverted or short-terminated/originated to maintain passenger safety and operational feasibility. Restoration efforts are currently underway to bring operations back to normal.
As a result of the flooding at the yard, key regional and intercity MEMU and Express trains had to be halted. Among the fully cancelled trains are: 18109 Tatanagar–NSCB Itwari Express, 58028 Tatanagar–Kharagpur MEMU, 68016 Tatanagar–Kharagpur MEMU, 68044 Rourkela–Tatanagar MEMU, 68085/68086 Tatanagar–Barkakana–Tatanagar MEMU, 68010/68009 Chakradharpur–Tatanagar–Chakradharpur MEMU, 68126 Barbil–Tatanagar MEMU, 68006 Tatanagar–Kharagpur MEMU, 68129/68130 and 68131/68132 Tatanagar–Badampahar–Tatanagar MEMU, and 68013/68014 Kharagpur–Tatanagar–Kharagpur MEMU.
Other cancelled services include 58027/58028 Kharagpur–Tatanagar–Kharagpur Passenger, 68016/68123 Tatanagar–Kharagpur–Tatanagar MEMU, 68006/68015 Tatanagar–Kharagpur–Tatanagar MEMU, 18019/18020 Jhargram–Dhanbad–Jhargram MEMU, 68043 Tatanagar–Rourkela MEMU, 68127/68128 Tatanagar–Chakradharpur–Tatanagar MEMU, 68125 Tatanagar–Barbil MEMU, 18113 Tatanagar–Bilaspur Express, 18601/18602 Tatanagar–Hatia–Tatanagar Express, 68123/68124 Kharagpur–Tatanagar–Kharagpur MEMU, 68133/68134 and 68135/68136 Tatanagar–Badampahar–Tatanagar MEMU, and 68137 Tatanagar–Chaibasa MEMU.
Meanwhile, a number of long-distance trains have been diverted. These include 12809 and 12261 CSMT Mumbai–Howrah Express, now running via Sini–Kandra–Chandil–Purulia–Howrah, and 18006 Jagdalpur–Howrah Express, rerouted via Sini–Chandil–Purulia. The 13288 Ara–Durg Express is operating through Chandil–Sini–Chakradharpur–Jharsuguda, while the 22892 Ranchi–Howrah Express has been diverted on the same path as the 18628 route. Similarly, the 22891 Howrah–Ranchi Express is going via Adra–Rajabera–Kotshila, and 22829 Bhuj–Shalimar Express along with 18029 LTT–Shalimar Express are being diverted via Purulia–Midnapore.
Train services have also been modified in terms of termination and origination. The 68138 Chaibasa–Tatanagar MEMU has been short-terminated at Rajkharswan, while 18114 Bilaspur–Tatanagar Express has been curtailed to end its journey at Chakradharpur. The 68055 Asansol–Tatanagar MEMU was short-terminated at Purulia, and its corresponding 68056 service will short-originate from Purulia rather than Tatanagar.
Railway authorities from the Chakradharpur division confirmed that efforts are underway to pump out water and resume normal operations at the Tatanagar yard. In the meantime, passengers have been strongly advised to stay updated through official sources before heading to the station, as more changes are likely depending on weather conditions and ground recovery progress.
With more rain forecast for the region and flood alerts already in place due to rising river levels, railway operations may continue to be affected over the next 24 to 48 hours.
