Over 10,000 participates, Saryu Roy flags off ‘Run for Unity’

Jamshedpur: As tribute to the ‘Iron Man of India’ Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel,over 10,000 participated in the ‘Run for Unity’. The hour-long run was flagged off by state food and civil supply minister Saryu Roy near Bistupur Postal Park at 7 am in the presence of Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto, East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amit Kumar, East Singhbhum SSP Anoop T. Mathew and host of other dignitaries saw the participants running on the Bistupur Main Road.

“We are really excited to see. It was the largest gathering in the city as far as run is concerned. We had made security and safety arrangements for the run. The run was successful due to the participation of all section of society,” said an official.

Earlier, the participants led by the minister Saryu Roy took a pledge for unity and swachhta (sanitation) before starting the race. The students and teachers present on the occasion also took pledge to serve country.

However, students going to school in the morning were hit as traffic cops diverted vehicles coming from Sakchi towards Inner Circle Road in Bistupur, Adityapur Roundabout to reach Jugsalai. While those vehicles coming from Jugsalai were diverted to Outer Circle Road via Adityapur roundabout, Kharkai Link Road.

Students from class eight and above of over 13 private and state-owned schools participated in the run.The participants ran through main thoroughfares before the conclusion of the run.

Organisations like Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce , Jamshedpur Chamber of Commerce , Hindustan Maitri Sangh, Defodils School , Rose Bird School, Shiksha Niketan , Tinplate Khalsa Middle School , Surat Gujarati School , social institutions in Shayam Mitra Mandal,, Shyam Bhakta Mandal , Bangbhashi Samaj, Chhattisgarh Welfare Committee , Gujarati Samaj , Jain Society , Bal Mandir , Dusad Society , Sahu Samaj , and Sindhi society took part in it.
