Over 1000 makeshift structures razed along Tata-Kandra Road

Jamshedpur, Feb 18: More than 1,000 shops, kiosks and eateries were removed along the Tata-Kandra Road’s service-lane and in S-Type area, Dindli Market, NIT Road as well as in Gamharia market under Adityapur police station area on Thursday.

The eviction drive was carried out as the shop-keepers were causing obstruction in the vehicular communication through the service-lane and also in the roads leading to the marketplace in Adityapur, NIT and Gamharia market.

Today’s eviction drive was carried out under the joint supervision of the Adityapur police station officer-in-charge Arvind Kumar and RIT police station officer-in-charge Amerjeet Prasad.

They had been instructed by the circle officer, Gamharia block, Subhra Rani to clear the Tata-Kandra Road’s service-lane and the marketplace in Adityapur and RIT police station area of any encroachment.

In order to ensure the completion of service lanes on either side of the four-lane, Seraikela-Kharsawan district administration embarked on an eviction drive on Tata-Kandra Road in Adityapur.

Armed with drilling machines, excavators and hammers for removing portion of the land that belonged to PWD-Road Construction, the representatives of the administration evicted several constructions.

The administration started demolishing the encroached portion of the buildings just a fortnight after serving notice to the house-owners and after verifying their documents, without giving any further chance to save their landed property.

The ambitious Tata-Kandra four-lane is set up by Jharkhand Accelerated Road Development Company Limited (JARDCL) at the behest of the PWD (Road Construction).

When majority work of the project is complete, encroachment along the four-lane at some places in Gamharia and in major portion on Adityapur-Gamharia stretch has emerged as a stumbling block on the way of completing the service lane.

Meanwhile, the local administration has started a fresh initiative to remove the encroachment from along the four-lane so as to pave the way for speedy completion of the Tata-Kandra four-lane project.

The eviction drive, which started from 10 a.m. on Thursday, continued till 4 p.m., during which excavators were used for pulling down the cemented as well as the iron structure.

About 20 policemen had also been deployed to ensure an unhindered eviction drive.
