Outsourced workers at Kolhan University await four months’ salary

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, April 1: Over 100 outsourced workers at Kolhan University, serving in various roles, including computer operators and security guards, are facing severe financial strain due to a delay in receiving their salaries for the past four months. Initially hired through an agency, their contracts expired in December, leaving them without income.

Despite discussions between the university administration, employees, and the agency, no salaries have been disbursed. The agency claims the university has not provided funds for payments due for December and January. With the absence of a permanent Vice Chancellor, disbursement of funds requires approval in a syndicate meeting, adding to the workers’ plight.

The delay has left many employees struggling to afford basic necessities like oil and soap, and some have expressed difficulty paying their children’s school fees. Efforts are underway to seek instructions from Raj Bhavan regarding outstanding payments owed by the agency, with plans to convene a syndicate meeting after April 15 to address the salary issue. As the workers continue to grapple with financial uncertainty, urgent action is needed to alleviate their distress and ensure their well-being.
