Jamshedpur, Aug 19: A Dahi Handi Matki Phod competition was organized on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashtami Mahotsav at Surya Mandir, Sidhgora, here on Friday. It was organized for both men and women. There were 78 men and 23 women in the two categories. The chief guest of the occasion was the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and patron of the temple management committee.
In his address he said the great Indian culture and civilization should always be revered and kept alive through such events. He said the young generation should be made aware of the rich Indian traditions and cultural heritage. He praised the temple committee members for organizing the grand event.
The event organizing committee included Dinesh Kumar, Bhupinder Singh, Mithilesh Singh Yadav, Rakesh Singh and Amarjeet Singh Raja. The participants were blindfolded and given two minutes time to smash the earthen pot with three blows of lathi. Nirmal Gope and Shweta Singh took 10 seconds and 16 seconds respectively in male and female categories. First three winners were given cash prize of Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 1000 respectively.
