Jamshedpur : One person was killed on the spot and four others were injured, as a bus coming from Kolkata collided by a truck at Belajuri village on NH 33 under MGM police station area today morning.
The victim was driver of the ill fated truck and was identified as Pankaj Kumar (26), a resident of Chhota Govindpur of Jamshedpur. Three of injured were passengers of the bus where as the one seriously injured is the driver of the bus. They were immediately rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital.
According to sources, the mishap took place near Kali Temple at Belajuri village. The bus carrying passengers was coming from Kolkata and moving towards Ranchi. There were about 35 passengers in the bus, including women and children.
Officer-in-charge Vinod Singh reached the spot by 6.30 am. The police helped the injured reaching to the MGM Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
The officer-in-charge said the investigation of the mishap is on and they suspect that both the vehicles were running in high speed. The police have seized the body of truck driver and sent it to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem.
Cases of road mishaps on the National Highway 33 have become a regular affair. Earlier the traffic was slow as the road of the NH-33 was dotted with potholes, but ever since it was repaired, the vehicle owners tend to drive at high speed. As per data available, Jamshedpur witnessed 424 cases of accidents reports in 2012 out of which 173 were fatal making the death figure reach 189. In 2013 there were total 348 accidents out of which 140 were fatal with 150 deaths. Though the figures for 2014 being complied but police officials informed the figures would be alarming.
