Jamshedpur, June 22: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a motorcyclist and left another seriously injured in Govindpur on Monday afternoon. The mishap occurred on the road connecting Govindpur to NH-33 under the Govindpur police station limits when a speeding Hyva truck rammed into a motorcycle carrying two riders.
According to police and local sources, the victims were identified as Sukhdev Gorai (40) and Kali Das Rajwar, both residents of Ghorabandha. The two were travelling towards NH-33 when the heavy vehicle allegedly struck their motorcycle with great force.
The impact proved fatal for Sukhdev Gorai, who was riding the bike. He died on the spot due to severe injuries. Kali Das Rajwar sustained serious injuries in the accident, including a fractured leg. He was immediately rushed to Tata Motors Hospital for treatment after police and local residents reached the scene.
Following the accident, angry bystanders chased down the Hyva truck and detained its driver before handing him over to the police. The vehicle was also seized.
Govindpur police took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. The victim’s family members have been informed, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accident.
The incident once again highlights the growing concern over reckless driving by heavy vehicles on roads connecting urban areas with national highways in and around Jamshedpur.
