On I-Day, Saryu Roy expresses need to spread education

Jamshedpur : City celebrated 69 th Independence Day with patriotic fervour on Saturday. State food and civil supplies minister Saryu Roy hoisted the national flag at Gopal Maidan.

In his address, he said that the development of rural areas has been uneven in compare to urban areas. However, the Government will work to ensure the development of rural areas.

�We want to assure the people of the district that the administration is dedicated in ensuring all round development.

The rural population would receive benefits of all the welfare schemes of the Government�, he noted. He also said that 39 per cent of the population is still illiterate and we need to spread education.

He also reiterated the administration resolve to ensure that benefits of Center�s welfare schemes reaches to the grass root level.

Students of different schools presented colourful cultural show. Toppers of Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) CBSE and ICSE/ISC boards were felicitated on the occasion. Several centurion blood donors were also felicitated.

Distribution of welfare measures to the deprived, honouring of meritorious officers, freedom fighters and glittering cultural programmes by school children marked the Independence Day celebrations. He also felicitated the family members of Kishan Dubey and Manoranjan Kumar.

Accompanied by DC Amitabh Kaushal, he took the salute from police and rescue personnel, NCC cadets, Home Guards and forest personnel and inspected the guard of honour. The cultural events presented by the students of several schools.

Despite overcast skies there was a large turnout at to witness the Independence Day parade. Children, as usual, stole the show with tiny tots dressed in a riot of colours, dancing to the melodies of patriotic songs.

Elsewhere in the district, heads of various offices hoisted flags on their premises to celebrate the day. Schools and colleges also joined the celebrations by hoisting flags on their premises.

During the function, citizens reiterate their pledge to safeguard the solidarity of the country and paid tributes to the martyrs.

City-based school colleges and educational institutions also organised events to pay homage to the leaders and the nation.

Various contests were also held to mark the day. Flag hoisting ceremonies were organised in most of the public and private institutions.
