Gamharia: Police here claimed to have busted a racket dealing in stolen furnace oil on Saturday by arresting three persons in this connection.
The accused persons, all tanker drivers, were identified as Gopal Rai, Sandeep Dalai and Vikram Yadav. They allegedly stole furnace oil being purchased by Orissa Manganese and Minerals Limited Company.
The oil was being supplied by HPCL, Haldia. In the last two or three months, the quality of oil was being reported as being sub-standard. This led the company vigilance officials to conduct a probe.
When they conducted a probe, they found out that the accused persons used to draw two to three thousand litres of oil from each tanker and replace the same with water and other liquids.
Soon the accused persons were questioned about the poor quality of oil. Police officials later probed into the matter and found out the truth.
An FIR has been lodged against the accused persons in this connection. Company officials said they had suffered a loss of Rs 3.45 crore as a result of theft.
