Baleswar, Feb 10: Baleswar Railway Station is going to be redeveloped to give it world class status. The station will undergo complete remodeling and designing. Rs. 197 crore has already been sanctioned for the project. World class passenger amenities and infrastructure will be ensured. Inspired by traditional Baleswar architecture, the station’s design will integrate elements like arches, ornate facades, and locally sourced material that reflect the city’s cultural heritage. The Station facade will feature wheels of the Konark Temple; the theme of the Shikhar draws inspiration from Jaganath Puri temple. The facade will showcase Saura paintings of the Saura tribals, adding a unique cultural touch.
Designed for next 50 years, the station will be able to handle 50,000 passengers per day. Station Building on both sides of the city will be connected with 18-metre wide Roof Plaza. Improvement in circulating area, provision of cover shed, Improvement to the waiting hall and construction of AC lounges will be done.
To ensure advance and better passenger amenities, 14 lifts, six escalators, 20 access control gates will be commissioned. Three FOBs connecting all platforms will be constructed. All platforms shall be fully coveted. Spacious parking of more than 7,000 sqm will be developed. A 133 KW Solar Panel, 1,000 KLD Water Recycling Plant will be constructed to reduce carbon foot prints. Improvement of goods shed will be done to enhance freight operations.
A period of 30 months is expected for the completion of this ambitious project for redeveloping the Baleswar station.
