Jamshedpur, June 10: A 35-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death in Kharangajhar Line Tola under Parsudih police station area late on Tuesday night, in a case suspected to be linked to allegations of an illicit relationship. Police have arrested one person in connection with the murder and launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Mohan Soren, a driver by profession and a native of Chakri village in Odisha. His family currently resides in Naya Basti area of Sundernagar.
According to police sources, Mohan frequently visited the residence of Raju Murmu in Kharangajhar Line Tola. He reportedly referred to Raju’s wife, Savita Murmu, as his “aunt” and maintained close ties with the family. However, Raju allegedly harboured suspicions regarding the nature of their relationship, leading to frequent domestic disputes.
The situation reportedly escalated on Tuesday night when an argument turned violent. Mohan was allegedly assaulted over the suspicion, sustaining severe injuries that resulted in his death.
Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from Parsudih police station rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Acting swiftly, police arrested Jairam Murmu, the owner of the house where the incident occurred, within hours of the crime.
During interrogation, the accused’s wife reportedly denied allegations of any inappropriate relationship with the deceased.
She told investigators that her husband had assaulted her earlier on Tuesday night, prompting her to leave the house with her two children and take shelter at a neighbour’s residence.
The woman stated that she learned about Mohan’s death only after returning the following morning. She maintained that Mohan treated her like a relative and addressed her as “Mami” (aunt), insisting that there was no illicit relationship between them.
Police officials said all angles are being examined, including the circumstances leading to the fatal assault and the statements made by family members. Further legal proceedings are underway as the investigation continues.
