Nuvoco launches social forestry project in village near Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, July 25: Nuvoco Vistas Corp. Ltd., India’s fifth-largest cement group in terms of capacity, inaugurated Social Forestry Project in Samutola village, Jharkhand, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment to sustainability and community development.

A total of 165 saplings has been planted on the land of Shri Sushen Mangandi, a tribal beneficiary from the local community. This plantation initiative is designed to provide sustainable income generation opportunities to the landowner while helping restore ecological balance in the region.

The project was inaugurated by Mr. Hari Kishore Garikapati, Plant Head, Jojobera Cement Plant, along with the Environment Head of the plant, in the presence of local villagers and stakeholders.

Hari Kishore Garikapati, Plant Head, Jojobera Cement Plant, stated, “The Social Forestry Project reflects Nuvoco’s commitment to building a greener and more inclusive future. By planting high oxygen-releasing species like Jamun, Mango, and other fruit-bearing trees, we are not only contributing to ecological restoration but also enabling sustainable livelihoods for local communities. This initiative promotes the sustainable use of natural resources and over time, will enhance the quality of life for beneficiaries while contributing to climate change mitigation and soil conservation.”

This initiative is part of Nuvoco’s broader sustainability strategy, which emphasises responsible resource use, environmental stewardship, and the empowerment of rural and tribal populations in its areas of operation.
