Jamshedpur, Feb 9: Post COVID-19 epidemic, the number of piles patients has gone up. This was observed here by renowned surgeon Dr Nagendra Singh, who is also the founder of Ganga Memorial Hospital, Jamshedpur, situated at Mango.
“Due to lockdown, people could not go out of their houses. Consequently, their involvement in physical activities was adversely affected. People could not take part in sports events and other activities that warrant a healthy and active lifestyle. This resulted in constipation and other stomach ailments which in turn have caused the number of piles patients to go up considerably,” said Dr Singh.
Dr Singh said Ganga Memorial Hospital had first started piles surgery through the advanced Minimally Invasive Procedure for Haemorrhoids (MIPH) technique. In this method, an advanced machine is used for stapler haemorrhoidectomy and the patient is released from hospital the very next day. The patient can return to work in just three to five days, he said.
Dr Singh said Ganga Memorial Hospital had become the first choice for piles patients for telescopic surgery of piles. He appealed to the Central and state governments to include the telescopic surgery of piles in the Ayushman Bharat Yojana since a sizeable number of piles patients are very poor.
