Jamshedpur, August 4: A new unit of the National Service Scheme (NSS) was formally inaugurated at D.B.M.S. College of Education on August 4, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s commitment to community service and youth development.
The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest Dara Singh Gupta, NSS Coordinator of Kolhan University, Chaibasa. He was joined by Principal Dr. Joohi Samarpita, Vice Principal Dr. Monika Uppal, NSS Program Officer Poonam Kumari, and other faculty members. The entire student body of the college was present to witness the occasion.

The program opened with the NSS theme song performed by music teacher Amrita Chaudhary and her student team comprising Rumpa, Poonam, Kunika, Rani, Pangela, Divya, Jyoti, Lovely, Kunti, Priya, Binita, Siddhi, Ayush, and Rupa. This was followed by a documentary screening by Neepu Rani and Priyanka Kumari, and a PowerPoint presentation by Mamoni and Neha Rani.
First-semester student Swati Raj recited a self-composed poem dedicated to the spirit and mission of NSS.
In a symbolic gesture, Dara Singh Gupta personally pinned the NSS badges on all the newly enrolled members. In his keynote address, he described NSS as a unique opportunity for youth to serve the nation, emphasizing the motto “Not Me, But You.” He informed the students that participation in NSS also grants them two additional points during future admissions and outlined the responsibilities of the NSS Program Officer.
Principal Dr. Joohi Samarpita highlighted recent NSS activities conducted by the college, while Vice Principal Dr. Monika Uppal discussed upcoming plans and initiatives.
The event saw active participation from faculty and dignitaries including Secretary Priya Dharmajran, Joint Secretary Sudha Dilip, and many staff members like Dr. Surina Bhullar Singh, Dr. Minakshi Kumari, Pamela Ghosh Dutta, and others.
Manju Kumari and Rani Kumari Lohar served as comperes for the event, and Priya Kumari delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all involved in the program’s success.
