Jamshedpur : The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Kolhan University organised a Republic Day parade selection camp at the Jamshedpur Co-operative College on Sunday.
A total of 40 students from eight constituent and affiliated colleges of Kolhan University participated in the selection camp to ensure their participation at the Republic Day parade at the Rajpath in New Delhi.
Arvind Prasad Pandit, NSS co-ordinator, Kolhan University informed that the students actively participated in the selection drive. They were tested on various parameters. We have four members as the jury for the selection. The results will be announced after a fortnight�.
The students from eight colleges from Jamshedpur, Seraikela and Chaibasa were tested in height, cultural activities, march past and had to run for 1.5 km within minimum time. The total number of students to be selected will be eight — four girls and four boys. Vinay Kumar from NSS regional Centre, Patna; Sandeep Kumar, controller of examination, Jamshedpur Co-operative College and Vivek Kumar, NCC officer, Jamshedpur Co-operative College were the judges along with Pandit.
�Colleges must ensure that the students get themselves involved in welfare activities so they can understand the importance of human life and work for the progress of the society. We need to promote value based education in our colleges,� noted an official.
Various competitions like drill, cultural programme, besides national integration awareness, best candidate and youth exchange programme are being held in the camp. The main purpose of conducting the camp is to train and select candidates for Republic Day parade at Delhi.
