Jamshedpur, Jan. 27: A night after the clash broke out between the groups of people of two communities in Jugsalai allegedly after stone pelting on Saraswati idol immersion procession normalcy prevailed on Saturday with shops and market remaining open and people returning to their routine work amid the presence of heavy security.
Earlier, on Friday evening law and order situation went out of control for a brief when group of people retaliated with stones after the procession was targeted with the stones by unidentified people livid over vulgar songs allegedly played by the procession volunteers in Gwalapara area under Jugsalai police station limits.
The situation was speedily escalating into a major law and problem with few residential houses in the surrounding receiving stones and the strength of the groups increasing with every passing minute.
However, security forces that rushed to control the situation resorted to lathi charge to disperse the mob following which the situation improved around midnight. The groups adamant on raising the communal tension also damaged the police van.
ďAs the procession of the Gaushala Saraswati puja samiti crossed the Middle English school building in DíCosta road miscreants started throwing stone and then it got increased as the other group countered the miscreants in the same manner,Ē said a local resident of DíCosta road requesting anonymity.
He said the procession was moving towards Baroda Ghat when the clash broke out.
Another person, who also stays in the same road, said, ďPolice action controlled the situation else things would have slipped out of hand.Ē
The DC, Amit Kumar, SSP, Anoop T Mathew and other top officials of the administration camped at the incident site for late hours and later in the morning SP, City, Prabhat Kumar and visited the site to take stock of situation.
The extensive police patrolling in the clash hit area continued all through Saturday and flag march of the security forces in the sensitive area was done to instill confidence in the people living in the densely populated area.
ďThings have returned to normal but security forces deployment will continue for the time being,Ē said SSP.
The SP, city, said four people have been arrested in connection with the case and FIR has been lodged for carrying out detailed investigation into the matter.
According to the reports six people sustained minor injuries in the clash but police denied of any injury.
