Focus on quality education to curb students’ migration: Governor
Jamshedpur, Oct 10: Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais Monday underlined the need for all colleges and universities of Jharkhand to focus on quality education so that students do not have to leave the state in search of better academic prospects in other states.
Bais was addressing the first graduation day ceremony of Arka Jain University at its Mohanpur campus in Gamharia block of Seraikela-Kharsawan as the chief guest. He gave away medals and certificates to students. He gave gold medal to 31 students and handed Ph.D certificates to four students. Certificates were given to 1800 students on this occasion.
In his address, Bais said he would keep making efforts to improve the education system of Jharkhand as long as he is in the state. He said the focus should be on quality and not on quantity. He said private colleges should not restrict themselves to the task of distributing certificates.
On the issue of lack of teaching staff in colleges, Bais said more than 400 teachers were appointed in universities in the last six months. He said 42 universities were running without principals when he joined office. Many universities did not have examination controllers and were running with acting Vice Chancellors. In view of the given situation, full-time appointments have been made and the various issues affecting universities and colleges would be resolved similarly in future, he said.
Bais was accorded guard of honour on his arrival at the university campus. The students performed traditional dance to welcome him and took him to the dais.
Other dignitaries present on this occasion included the MP of Jamshedpur Bidyut Baran Mahato, West Singhbhum MP Geeta Koda and Vice Chancellor of Arka Jain University Dr SS Razi.
