No public functions allowed on Holi in Jamshedpur: Kolhan DIG convenes meeting

Jamshedpur, March 27: Deputy inspector general (DIG), Kolhan, Rajiv Ranjan Singh on Saturday held a meeting of senior police officers to review city’s law and order situation in view of Holi. The DIG ordered implementation of orders of ban on holding public functions on Holi. The Government has ordered ban on any type of public function on Holi to ensure social distancing.

Singh said that action will be taken against those who post objectionable comments and pictures on social media platforms. He said that the police are keeping a vigil on social media. Moreover, citizens can inform police against those playing Holi in public by dialling 100.

All the police stations of the East Singhbhum have been asked to take up measures to prevent hooligans from creating law and order problem on the festival day. Cops have been directed to keep an eye on people who roam in the streets after consuming liquor and create nuisance.

“ We have seen that small time criminals cross the limits on the pretext of Holi celebration and many a time this creates problem to the police. Keeping in mind about the possible scenario we have asked the officer in-charge’s of the police stations to carry out arms checking exercise and pace up patrolling for the next couple of days,” said an official.

Magistrates, police officers, including constables, have been deployed in large numbers to maintain peace and harmony in  sensitive areas like Jugsalai, Mango, Sakchi and Dhatkidih, he said.

The police officials said that strict security would be in place for the festival of colours and those indulging in mischief in the garb of revelry would be taken to task.  “We are also carrying search operations at different hotels and lodges to nab suspected people. Moreover extra vigil is also being kept at the border areas of the district,” said the official. He said that the police control room is coordinating with different police stations to ensure peace and harmony.

Speaking on maintaining lockdown for preventing the spread of coronavirus, the DIG said that there should be a more coordinated activity between the police and the panchayat officials in rural areas.
