Jamshedpur, October 2: A 2 km walkathon was organised for environment conservation on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti were large number of participants urged the people to minimize the use of polythene, on Sunday, October 2.
On the orders of Chief District Judge BB Mangal Murti and DC Amit Kumar awareness programme was launched at JRD Tata Sports Complex at 7 am. Addressing the gathering, District Judge BB Mangal Murti, said ‘the district administration has been running No Polythene campaign in Jamshedpur for quite sometime and I through this walkathon would like to say that citizens of Jamshedpur should practically make an effort to end the use of polythene’.
District Judge further shed light on the life of Mahatma Gandhi and also praised the no polythene campaign being run from the last one month.
At the walkathon, chief of district judge SK Chandrayavi, Ashok Kumar, KK Jha, MP Mishra, Ajit Kumar Singh, SK Singh and registrar Kamal Ranjan were present.
All the officers were present along with family members. DC Amit Kumar, SSP Anoop T Mathew, SDO Suraj Kumar, DPRO Sanjay Kumar, Traffic DSP Vivekananda Thakur, BDO Mati Parul Singh, Jusco MD Ashish Mathur, Tata Steel sports department chief Mukul Choudhari, Civil defence warden Shakil Anwar, Red Cross society secretary Vijay Singh, NCC captain Vijay Kumar along with hundreds of people holding placards depicting message of cleanliness walked from JRD Tata Sports Complex to Jubilee par gate no. 1.
At the walkathon volunteers of NCC and Red Cross shouted slogans ‘Stop plastic, be fantastic’, remove polythene, save environment’, Jamshedpur has intended to stop polythene use’ etc.
Vote of thanks was extended by DC Amit Kumar while the programme was conducted by district public relation officer Sanjay Kumar. During the concluding of the walkathon, DC thanked all for making the event a success and appealed all to minimize the use of polythene.
