Jamshedpur, March 16: The district administration has announced major traffic restrictions in the city on March 18 in view of the upcoming Hindu New Year procession.
To ensure smooth conduct of the event and maintain public safety, the entry of heavy vehicles into the city will remain completely prohibited throughout the day.
The New Year procession, being organised by the Hindu Utsav Samiti along with several social and religious organisations, is expected to draw large crowds across different parts of the city. Anticipating heavy traffic congestion and public movement during the procession, the administration has decided to impose temporary restrictions on heavy vehicular movement.
According to a joint order issued by the district administration and the police department, all types of heavy vehicles will be barred from entering and moving within the city limits from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM on March 18.
The restriction aims to regulate traffic flow and prevent any inconvenience to the public during the procession.
The order bears the signatures of Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi, Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey, and Traffic DSP Neeraj Kumar.
Officials stated that the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to manage the anticipated surge in traffic and ensure that the religious procession proceeds peacefully and without disruption.
Authorities have clarified that while heavy vehicles will not be allowed during the specified hours, bus services will continue to operate normally, ensuring that commuters do not face difficulties in travelling within the city.
The administration has also appealed to transporters and truck operators to cooperate with the restrictions and avoid entering the city with heavy vehicles during the designated period.
They have been advised to make use of alternative routes and plan their journeys accordingly.
Officials further said that traffic personnel will be deployed at key entry points and intersections to enforce the restrictions and guide vehicles toward diversion routes, ensuring that traffic movement remains orderly during the large-scale procession.
