Jamshedpur, May 28: In a groundbreaking endeavor, students from NIT Jamshedpur are set to launch a solar-powered vehicle, marking a significant leap in green transportation technology. The design, meticulously crafted by the student team Revanta, is poised to revolutionize the automotive industry with its sustainable approach.

Amidst the prevailing dominance of petrol, diesel, and battery-operated vehicles, the emergence of solar-powered transportation heralds a new era of eco-friendly mobility. Equipped with a solar panel on its upper surface, the vehicle harnesses solar energy for continuous recharging, eliminating the need for conventional electricity. This innovation not only reduces carbon emissions but also exemplifies a commitment to environmental stewardship.

Operating at a speed of 25 km per hour, the solar-powered vehicle represents a collaborative effort by students across various academic batches at NIT Jamshedpur. Years of dedicated research and development have culminated in the creation of this hybrid solar vehicle, poised to make its commercial debut through the student-led company Revanta Private Limited.

With support from the institute and a robust business plan in place, the student entrepreneurs envision establishing a Jamshedpur-based solar electric vehicle manufacturing enterprise. Initial projections indicate a promising trajectory, with estimated earnings of Rs 30 lakh in the first year alone.

The venture aims to penetrate diverse market segments, with a particular focus on supplying solar electric vehicles to national parks and wildlife sanctuaries across the country. Targeting 106 national parks and 567 wildlife sanctuaries, the initiative seeks to address the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions in the tourism sector.

In the first phase, the solar-powered vehicles will be introduced for safari experiences, offering tourists an eco-friendly alternative for wildlife excursions. Subsequent phases will involve further refinement of the technology, expanding its applications to various sectors beyond tourism.

The project epitomizes the innovative spirit and environmental consciousness of the student community at NIT Jamshedpur, with 30 students actively engaged in the development of the hybrid solar vehicle under Team Revanta’s leadership. Their collaborative efforts underscore the potential for transformative change in the realm of environmental protection and sustainable transportation.
