Jamshedpur, Nov 13: In line with the National Education Policy (NEP), the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur has introduced several flexible academic policies allowing students who left their studies midway to re-enroll and complete their courses. This change aims to provide students with enhanced educational continuity and adaptability.

Under the updated NEP guidelines, students will now be able to explore subjects from other branches along with their primary area of study. This interdisciplinary approach is expected to aid in placements and provide students with broader skill sets. “This policy enables students to gain diverse knowledge, making them multi-skilled and appealing to employers,” said an NIT spokesperson.

Additionally, students enrolled at any NIT across the country can transfer to NIT Jamshedpur mid-semester if seats are available, marking a progressive shift in inter-institutional flexibility. From the third year, 25-30% of students’ coursework can now include subjects outside their primary branch, with both major and minor fields noted on transcripts.

A new “multi-entry, multi-exit” policy allows students to exit and later rejoin their studies. Under this policy, if a student leaves, they are provided a certificate acknowledging their completed coursework, with eligibility to re-enroll even after several years.

To further align with NEP, NIT Jamshedpur now permits six-month internships and online courses in any subject during the semester. This expanded academic flexibility, according to institute experts, fosters a modern, adaptable learning environment for students across disciplines.
