NIT Jamshedpur hosts workshop on traditional Indian knowledge systems

Jamshedpur, May 17: The Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) at NIT Jamshedpur organized a one-day workshop titled “Know Your India through Traditional Indian Knowledge System” on May 17, 2024. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp by Honourable Director Prof. Gautam Sutradhar, esteemed chief guest Pandeet Ram Narayan Sharma, Dr. Om Prakash Pandey, Prof. Shalendra Kumar (Chairman IKS), and Prof. Ram Vinay Sharma.

In his welcome address, Prof. Sutradhar emphasized the need to incorporate Indian cultural and spiritual values into the education system. He highlighted the significance of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in promoting India’s rich cultural heritage, which is essential for the holistic development of students and the progress of the nation.

The esteemed guest, Pandeet Ram Narayan Sharma, a renowned astrologer, explained the ancient astrological system and its relevance in the modern world. He discussed the importance of the 16 sanskaras in Indian tradition and their impact on various dimensions of human life. Pandeet Sharma underscored the influence of human actions and accumulated deeds on well-being.

Dr. Om Prakash Pandey elaborated on the intricacies of the universe’s mysteries, referencing the Nasadiya Sukta from the Rigveda. He explored the hymn’s contemplation on the origins of creation, questioning whether it was the will of a deity or a spontaneous formation, ultimately pointing to the supreme Brahman as the all-knowing force.

Dr. Prem Lata Devi focused on the rich cultural heritage and the significant role of women in traditional Indian systems. She reiterated the esteemed and pivotal roles women held in ancient times and their continuing relevance today.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Manish Kumar Jha, Convener of IKS, who expressed gratitude to all participants and speakers for their contributions to the insightful and enriching workshop.
