
Jamshedpur: A nagar kirtan (Sikh religious procession) being taken out as part of the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, reached the city from Nankana Sahib in Pakistan via Kharagpur.

A rousing welcome was given to the holy saroop from Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of the first Sikh Guru.

Among those present on the occasion were senior officials of Central Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) led by its president Gurmukh Singh Mukhe.

Addressing devotees Mukhe said Guru Nanak Dev Ji preached to the entire humanity to sacrifice superstition and worship God.

Guru ji gave knowledge to humanity in the country and abroad through four �padyatras� and inspired the people to follow the right path of life, he added.

At Nh 33, thousands of people gathered to welcome the nagar kirtan led by the Panj Pyaras (five beloved ones of the Guru) and the saroop of the holy book being carried in a bus decorated with flowers.

A rush of devotees was witnessed at Mango Dimna Road. Langars were organised at different places along the stretch.

The welcome was extended by honouring �panj pyaras�, who were leading the procession. Representatives of various religious, social and political organisations welcomed nagar kirtan on its arrival at the city entrance.

The enthusiasm of devotees was at its peak when nagar kirtan reached the historic gurdwara Sakchi Sahib.

The district administration has made elaborate arrangements, including proper traffic management, ambulance and decorated both sides of the road.

The slogans- Satnam Waheguru was chanted while welcoming the International Nagar Kirtan. Sikh Devotees offered their worship to the Palki Sahib.

The Palki Sahib along with International Nagar Kirtan is here to mark the celebrations of 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
