Ranchi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has expressed concerns about its safety and security in Jharkhand. In a formal letter addressed to the Union Home Ministry, the NIA has raised issues regarding the safety of its office and officials operating in the region. Responding to NIA’s apprehensions, the Union Home Ministry has corresponded with the Chief Secretary of the Jharkhand Government and the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home, Jail, and Disaster Management Department, urging them to reinforce security measures. This matter is now under consideration at the government level, and a security audit is expected to be conducted promptly to enhance the security of NIA personnel.
Sources report that the NIA has informed the Union Home Ministry about its involvement in the investigation of several critical cases within Jharkhand. These investigations encompass inquiries into organizations such as the Popular Front of India (PFI), Naxal groups, and various terrorist organizations operating in the state. NIA officers are required to conduct investigations in remote villages, and in this context, there are concerns that these organizations might target NIA officers, posing potential risks to their safety and well-being.
