Ranchi: National Human Rights Commission has directed the Secretary of Union Ministry of Power to improve the power supply infrastructure in Giridih within two months. The directive was issued following the initiative of Madan Mohan Priye, an advocate of Giridih, who wrote to the Ministry officials as well as the NHRC in this regard earlier.
According to Priye, On 12th May last, I had filed a case before the NHRC,New Delhi and requested the Commission to issue direction to Power Secretary of the Ministry to revamp Power infrastructure in Giridih district because the Giridih district is reeling under sever power shortage since a long. I informed the NHRC that Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited has neither expertise nor resources to revamp power infrastructure in the Giridih district.
The NHRC, New Delhi agreed on my contentions and issued direction to the Power Secretary on 29th May last to fullfill all my prayers within 8 weeks.
Priye had sent a letter to R.K. Singh, Union Cabinet Minister Of Power (Independent Charge) in respect of severe power problem of Giridih on 24th April last.
The letter was received in the office of the said minister on 25.04.2018. But no action was taken, said Priye.
According to Priye, It means that Central government has full authority to act independently on subjects of concurrent list. The Power Ministry is established in 1993. It is responsible for overall development of Power related infrastructure in the country.
The National Electricity Policy 2005 speaks about the importance of power in all spheres of life. The socio-economic conditions of the country entirely depended on Power infrastructure.
