Jamshedpur, April 4: Narbheram Hansraj English School (NHES), one of the oldest schools in the city, now has its own state-of-the-art auditorium in the school premises.

T V Narendran, Global CEO and MD Tata Steel did a soft inauguration of the auditorium on April 1, 2024.

On April 4, the Kusum Kamani Auditorium was opened by Chanakya Chaudhury, Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel in the presence of Nakul Kamani, President of the school managing committee, members of the managing committee, dignitaries and special guests.

In a special video message for the school, T V Narendran spoke about the Kamani family.

He acknowledged their contribution to the betterment of the Jamshedpur community. He was appreciative of the fact that the auditorium is a green contemporary structure and it is made of steel which is recyclable.

The auditorium is named after Late Kusum Kamani, mother of Nakul Kamani, Killol Kamani and Roopa Gupta. It is a truly fitting tribute to her, an entrepreneur and an astute business woman apart from being a dedicated social worker.

Guest of Honour Chanakya Chaudhury, Vice President (Corporate Services) Tata Steel  was appreciative of the new auditorium and praised Nakul Kamani for his tireless efforts to ensure quality standards in the school.

Nakul Kamani, a visionary leader whose sharp acumen had played an important role in establishing Narbheram Hansraj English School as one of the premium institutions of the town. Under his leadership the school evolved into its present state, where striving for excellence is a way of life.

Nakul Kamani in his address highlighted the legacy of his grandfather Seth Sri Narbheram Hansraj Kamani who set up the Narbheram group of institutions for the children of the Gujrati community and the society at large. This year marks 100 years of the Kamani family’s involvement in education. In conclusion Nakul Kamani dedicated the auditorium to the citizens of Jamshedpur.

“The building was envisioned as a Floating Auditorium and therefore the entire auditorium was lifted off the ground enabling a 40% increase in outdoor activity areas and at the same time developing a 1000 seater auditorium. The total built up area for the Auditorium is 36500 sqft.,” said Nakul.

The architect of the auditorium, Nalin Goel played a pivotal role in giving shape the auditorium. Goel said, “The new auditorium and school building is primarily a steel building with all major structural elements made with rolled steel sections. About 550 Tons of steel have been used. This makes the construction process very quick, light and sustainable. All the infill partitions are done with AAC blocks which is also a sustainable and light weight material. The acoustic panels used are made with reused PET bottles.”

He further stated, “The stage floor is an SPC floor which uses stone waste as its prime material. There was a concerted effort at making this building as green as possible. A green rating for this project has been applied for. The auditorium has state of the art air conditioning, stage lighting and audio visual facilities to enthral audiences for almost all kind of functions. All fire and other safety measures have been incorporated into the building.”

On 4th April,2024, the programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp accompanied by Shloka Recitation.

Next the NHES choir presented an enthralling prayer song.

The triumph of good over evil was depicted through a dance drama on the battle between Mahishasur and Goddess Durga where Mahishasur was finally defeated.

The different dance forms of India: the Dandiya and Garba from Gujarat in the west, the elegant Manipuri dance, foot tapping music of Bengal and graceful Odissi steps from the east, the Lucknow style from the north, martial art form: Kalaripattu from Kerela and the dramatic Kathakali from the South and our very own Chhau dance of Jharkhand encompassed the varied cultural heritage of India in quest of the Holy grail of Subhasya Vijayam.

The programme was conceptualized by the Principal, Paramita Roy Chaudhury.

The team responsible for putting up the show was led by Tandrima Banerjee and Subhash Banerjee. The vote of thanks was proposed by Killol Kamani, Trustee.
