‘Next Gen GST Reforms’ seminar in Jamshedpur: Delay in GST Tribunal formation a major concern

Rajendra Arora stresses consumer-centric changes

Jamshedpur: A seminar on “Next Gen GST Reforms” was organized under the aegis of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) at a hotel in Sakchi. The program brought together tax experts, trade leaders, and representatives of industrial bodies to deliberate on recent policy changes and the way forward for India’s indirect tax regime.

Renowned GST expert, author, and Vice President of the Sales Tax Bar Association (Delhi), CA Rajendra Arora, participated as the keynote speaker. The seminar was presided over by Vikas Mittal, Advocate and Chief (Indirect Taxes), Tata Steel. The event began with the traditional lighting of the lamp and a welcome address by Suresh Sonthalia, National Joint General Secretary of CAIT. The guests were felicitated with bouquets, while representatives of various organizations were greeted with roses. The program was conducted by Advocate Piyush Chaudhary.

In his address, Arora outlined the government’s objective behind the new GST rates, effective from September 22, 2025, stressing that the focus is on consumer benefit. “If the relief does not reach consumers, the government will take corrective steps,” he said. He also highlighted the increase in the income tax exemption limit to ₹12 lakh to boost purchasing power.

While welcoming the reforms, Arora strongly criticized the delay in setting up the GST Tribunal, calling it a major concern for businesses facing disputes and litigation. He emphasized that timely establishment of the tribunal would strengthen the credibility of the GST regime.

The seminar concluded with a lively question-and-answer session, followed by presentation of mementos and bouquets to dignitaries. A vote of thanks was extended to all participants.

The event witnessed large participation from trade and industrial organizations.
