Jamshedpur: Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi carried out a detailed inspection of the multi-storey residential complex being constructed under Component 3 of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) in Birsanagar on Thursday. The project, executed by the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), is one of the most ambitious affordable housing initiatives in the district, aimed at providing safe, dignified, and modern homes to urban poor families.

During the site visit, the Deputy Commissioner carefully reviewed the quality of construction, the pace of progress, and the infrastructure being developed in the two towers that are currently in the final stage of construction. Officials informed him that nearly 95 percent of the work on both towers has been completed. The Deputy Commissioner, while taking stock of the situation, categorically directed the contractors to complete the remaining tasks within the stipulated time frame, underlining that the objective of the scheme is to deliver housing to beneficiaries at the earliest and further delays will not be tolerated.

Emphasizing on worker welfare, Satyarthi instructed the contractors to strictly ensure safety measures at the construction site, provide necessary protective equipment to workers, and comply with prescribed safety standards during operations. He also reiterated that labourers should be paid minimum wages regularly without fail, reflecting the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of the workforce engaged in the project.
In addition to construction quality, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the provision of basic civic amenities. He directed departmental officials to ensure adequate arrangements for electricity, clean drinking water, proper drainage, and access roads before the handover of flats. “The objective is not just to build structures but to create complete, livable housing for families. All necessary facilities must be ready in advance so that beneficiaries do not face any inconvenience during relocation,” he remarked.
Highlighting the larger purpose of the scheme, the Deputy Commissioner said the affordable housing project represents a crucial step in fulfilling the state government’s commitment to inclusive urban development. “This initiative is designed to provide clean, safe, and comfortable housing to every eligible family living in difficult conditions. The project is a symbol of our commitment to improving the quality of life of urban poor communities, and its timely completion is our top priority,” he added.
The inspection also saw discussions on proper maintenance mechanisms after handover, so that residents continue to receive essential services without disruption. The Deputy Commissioner stressed that coordination between JNAC, contractors, and line departments will be crucial for the successful implementation of the project.
Present during the inspection were Deputy Municipal Commissioner (JNAC) Krishna Kumar, Dhalbhum Sub-Divisional Officer Chandrajit Singh, Executive Engineer Deepak Sahay, other technical officers, and contractors associated with the project.
