Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum district administration is intensifying its campaign against illegal parking, road encroachments, unauthorized constructions, and irregular auto-rickshaw operations across Jamshedpur to improve traffic management and public convenience. The administration will constitute a dedicated task force to conduct regular enforcement drives and ensure strict compliance with regulations.
Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan led the review meeting at the Collectorate auditorium where officials finalized these decisions. Senior officials attended the meeting, including the City SP, SP (Rural), Sub-Divisional Officers of Dhalbhum and Ghatshila, the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of JNAC, the DSP (Traffic), and representatives from various departments.
Key Enforcements and Directives
- Clearing Roadways: Expressing concern over rising traffic congestion from haphazard parking, roadside encroachments, and unregulated auto-rickshaws, the Deputy Commissioner directed authorities to remove temporary encroachments, such as roadside carts and kiosks, in a phased manner. However, the administration will ensure alternative arrangements for the affected vendors.
- Streamlining Auto-Rickshaws: To organize auto-rickshaw operations, the Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to improve facilities at the Sakchi auto stand and earmark specific areas for distinct routes and destinations. Drivers must now operate exclusively from these designated locations. Furthermore, the administration ordered JNAC and JUSCO to jointly plan essential amenities for drivers, including sheds, drinking water, and toilets. The team also discussed replacing old, unusable toilets with modern facilities.
- Traffic Rules & Permit Audits: The Deputy Commissioner directed traffic police to conduct regular drives against auto-rickshaws that disrupt traffic by stopping at intersections and main roads to pick up or drop passengers. Officials will also verify city auto-rickshaw permits and penalize vehicles operating with permits from other areas. Drivers must now display fare charts, wear designated uniforms, and block the right side of their vehicles to meet safety norms.
Infrastructure Expansion
- Optimizing Parking: To tackle the shortage of parking infrastructure, the Deputy Commissioner asked JUSCO and JNAC to jointly identify suitable locations for new parking facilities. Officials discussed relocating the current parking area outside PM Mall and ensuring that commercial establishments, including Bindal Mall, utilize their internal parking facilities properly.
- Organizing Vending Zones: The meeting focused on developing a dedicated vending zone in Sakchi and removing vendors operating beyond market boundaries. Officials plan to build the necessary infrastructure to support organized commerce while maintaining smooth traffic flow.
- Protecting Public Land: To tackle encroachments on rivers, drains, and public land, the administration will form a task force to execute regular enforcement drives. The Deputy Commissioner specified that authorities must give affected individuals prior notice and carry out all actions strictly according to legal procedures. The administration will implement similar measures in the Ghatshila subdivision.
