New MGM Hospital Jamshedpur to start OPD, key health services by January 15

Jamshedpur: The newly constructed 750-bed hospital at MGM Medical College is set to begin operations soon, with all major health services, including the outpatient department (OPD), being shifted from the existing Sakchi facility between January 15 and 31, informed Health Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh on Wednesday during his inspection visit of the new hospital at Dimna.

Singh, who led a 10-member team to inspect the new hospital said, “The relocation is part of a larger plan to demolish the old Sakchi hospital buildings and replace them with modern facilities.”

“All the patients and facilities from the existing Sakchi MGM will be shifted to the newly inaugurated wing between January 15 to January 30 and the demolition process of the old buildings will start,” the health secretary added.

He further added that the normal OPD will start from January 15 however setting up of IPD will take some time. “New medical equipment required for the expansion will be also assented as per requirement,” said Singh.

The new hospital will house critical services such as emergency care, intensive care units, and all medical wards. Additionally, three super-specialty departments—Cardiology, Oncology, and Neurology—will commence OPD services during this phase. Indoor facilities for these specialties will follow soon.

The hospital will also feature a 75-bed cath lab, enhancing cardiology services and supporting the launch of super-specialty OPDs. Health Secretary Singh emphasized that the transition is a key step toward transforming the facility into a state-of-the-art healthcare center.

Before the shift, measures are being taken to ensure the readiness of the new hospital, including the availability of essential amenities like water and other infrastructure.

The inspection team, comprising senior officials and medical specialists, strategized the transition and discussed future plans for the hospital’s development. District officials, including Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal and hospital principal Dr. Diwakar Hansda, pledged their support for timely implementation.

With the new hospital’s operations set to begin, patients will soon benefit from enhanced healthcare services, marking a significant milestone in MGM Hospital’s transformation into a super-specialty medical facility.
