Ranchi: New libraries are set to be established in all seven central jails of Jharkhand, providing prisoners access to a wide range of books in various languages. These jails include Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi, Jai Prakash Narayan Central Jail in Hazaribagh, Central Jail in Ghaghidih, Dumka, Deoghar, Giridih, and Palamu.

The initiative follows a proposal from Hindustani Prachar Sabha to set up free libraries in the state’s central jails, offering books in multiple languages. In response, the Jail IG wrote to the superintendents of all central jails, who have since submitted their book lists to the organization.

The libraries will feature books in Hindi, English, Urdu, and other local languages such as Santhali, Khortha, Kudukh, and Nagpuri, ensuring that prisoners have access to a variety of reading materials. The new libraries will also include racks to organize these books for easy access.

Rakesh Kumar Tripathi, associated with Hindustani Prachar Sabha, confirmed that the books would be made available within the next 15 days. He further announced plans to extend the initiative to district jails, ensuring that all prisons in the state are enriched with library facilities.

While libraries already exist in Jharkhand’s jails, this new initiative aims to refresh and expand their offerings. Hindustani Prachar Sabha is providing the books free of cost, making the program a significant step towards improving the educational environment in the state’s correctional facilities.
