New land identified for waste treatment plant in Jharkhand’s Seraikela

Seraikela, August 22: Seraikela Kharsawan district administration has identified 10 acres of land near Bundu in Seraikela for the waste treatment plant (WTP) of the Seraikela Nagar Panchayat.

The construction of the WTP would commence soon after land transfer and other paperwork.

Incidentally, earlier the WTP was proposed to be set up on 10 acres of land at plot number 946 khata number 152 in Bundu but due to opposition from the rural populace the WTP plans had to be shelved.

After this, 10 acres of land has been selected for the WTP plant in khata  number 152, plot number 555 on the same Bundu Mauja.

Around 10 to 15 tonnes of waste is collected daily from the Nagar Panchayat. The door to door garbage collection has been stopped as there is no place to dump the garbage near the Nagar Panchayat. There have been many disputes over the dumping of garbage on the outskirts of the city and on the banks of the river. After the commissioning of the plant, door to door garbage collection will be resumed in the city. Circle Officer Suresh Kumar Singha said that earlier the land was transferred to the state urban development department in Bundu Mauja itself for the construction of a waste disposal plant, but after the protest of the local people, the land for the garbage plant was transferred to the new place.

About 10 acres of land in Bundu Mauja will be transferred to the urrban development department for the WTP.

Organic manure will be made in the WTP

The waste collected in the waste plant will be treatment and made into different materials including glass, paper, metal, plastic, clothing, and electronics. The used paper, foam polystyrene etc. are separated from the waste so that it can be used back. Apart from this, organic manure will also be made from the waste in the waste plant.

State transport minister and Seraikela MLA Champai Soren had held a meeting December last year over construction of WTP at Rangadih Tola of Bundu where it was decided to select another alternative land for the WTP and on December 15, 2020, a Gram Sabha was held in the Mata Mansa temple premises of Rangadih under the chairmanship of village head Kusnu Mundari, in which the proposal to build a garbage plant in Bundu’s account number 152, plot number 555 was passed.
