Construction delayed: Only 75% of work completed despite June deadline

Jamshedpur, June 3: A state-of-the-art hospital, equipped with advanced facilities including treatment for heart and cancer ailments, is nearing completion at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College, located at Dimna Chowk. The hospital, set to revolutionize healthcare services in the city, is currently under construction and is expected to commence operations by November.

The inspection of the ongoing construction was conducted by Dr. SK Singh, Education Director of the Health Department, who arrived from Ranchi to oversee the progress. Dr. Singh meticulously assessed the construction site, issuing instructions to rectify any identified shortcomings to ensure the hospital’s readiness for upcoming inspections.

Following the inspection, a meeting was convened with MGM Principal Dr. KN Singh, Superintendent Dr. Ravindra Kumar, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Nakul Prasad Chaudhary, and department heads to discuss further plans and preparations. Dr. Singh highlighted the impending visit of the Principal Secretary of the Health Department on June 10, emphasizing the importance of thorough preparations and the presence of officials to address any inquiries during the inspection.

While significant progress has been made in the construction, Dr. SK Singh noted that approximately 25 percent of the work remains pending, primarily focusing on the completion of electrical and water supply systems. The college management has expedited the tender process for water supply to ensure timely completion of essential infrastructure.

The new hospital, spanning seven floors, will feature separate sections for emergency services, outpatient departments (OPD), and wards. Notable features include a dedicated welcome area, centralized air conditioning throughout the facility, and a total of 623 beds, including a 123-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Additionally, the hospital will house 21 operational departments, providing comprehensive medical services, including specialized treatment for heart and cancer conditions, catering to the diverse healthcare needs of the community.
