JFC to head for Madrid for pre-season training
Jamshedpur, July 21: After a successful first outing, Jamshedpur Football Club (JFC) is raring to go as the fifth season of Indian Super League (ISL) draws near. Preparations are on and the Tata Steel owned franchisee has also appointed former Atletico de Madrid manager Cesar Ferrando as the head coach for the 2018-19 season beginning mid-September.
Jamshedpur Football Club Director and Tata Steel vice president (Corporate Services), Sunil Bhaskaran introduced the head coach to the media during the press meet at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Saturday.
�We are delighted to welcome Cesar Ferrando to Jamshedpur FC. We are extremely confident that he is the right person for the job and will work to deliver trophies for our fans and bring glory to Jamshedpur�, Bhaskaran said.
Talking about the debut season, JFC Director said, the energy and enthusiasm with which we started our first season it created a stir and the club had a very successful season where we finished fifth.
�We have started grass root workshop at Tata Football Academy and we are working on it. If we want India to compete with world football we will have to work on the grass root level and will need different level coaches with that aim we are focusing on training coaches�, said Bhaskaran, adding, �the way Croatia played the recently concluded FIFA World Cup is a big example for us.
The runners-up Croatia with 4 million population made a mark on world football which will same when we ass the population of Jamshedpur and Ranchi�.
Newly appointed coach Cesar Ferrando in his opening address said, �I have seen 3 to 4 matches and some videos of Jamshedpur FC and done the analysis and would plan accordingly to take JFC to next level�.
When asked about his priorities, Spaniard who had successful stint with Spanish Club, La Nucia along with La Liga & Segunda Division Clubs such as Atletico de Madrid (2004-05), Valencia B, Elche, Albacete, said, work hard and improve every day. �Want to build a strong and competitive team and implement new system with different strategies and ensure the team plays short passes. Would aim to add a tinge of Spanish flavour to the side and will look into the physique of the players and guide them and also work on the natural skill. We will infuse new idea and different style into the team and give our best so that a new look Jamshedpur can be visible from the beginning to the end of the season and let the supporters enjoy the faith they have put in my team, my staff and me�, added Cesar.
58-year-old further said that Tiri is a good captain and we will ensure a good pre-season training in Madrid with 2-3 practice matches against the Spanish team.
Jamshedpur FC Chief Executive Officer Mukul Choudhari said, �Cesar Ferrando has had an outstanding football management career and proved with the performance of the field time and again.
His sides have always played exciting football, impressing with their attacking approach and dynamism, and his coaching methods significantly improved the players. �After a rigorous search involving extensive background references, data and video analysis and personal meetings with all the candidates, we unanimously chose Cesar to carve our path in creating football history.�
It is worth mentioning that Cesar also possesses experience in coaching an Asian team with his stint in Malaysia where he managed Johur Darul Takzim F.C. in 2013-14. During his player career, Cesar plied his trade as a midfielder and represented top Spanish clubs such as Valencia (1981-84), Salamanca, Sabadell, Alzira (La Liga & Segunda Division Clubs).
