New Dhalbhum SDO prepares to remove illegal hoardings

Jamshedpur, Jan. 23 : East Singhbhum district administration is planning to remove illegal hoardings and cutouts at public places in the steel city.

After a lapse of about a month, the district administration officials headed by the new Dhalbhum SDO Suraj Kumar will launch a drive to remove banners and hoardings that have come up again on important roads of Sakchi and Bistupur posing threat for the people as well as vehicles.

It may be recalled that JNAC, following directive from the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Dr. Amitabh Kaushal, carried out a drive against illegal hoardings and banners put up near important roundabouts near Sakchi, Sitaramdera and MGM Hospital and also inside the Sakchi market.

Now, the Dhalbhum sub divisional office is preparing the action plan to free the city from the unauthorized signboards, billboards and banners that have spoiled the beauty of the industrial town.

�Notified area officials have been asked to identify the unauthorized hoardings as part of the action plan to free the city from such hoardings and advertisement boards,� said Dhalbhum SDO, Suraj Kumar, adding, �These hoardings are hung without the permission or knowledge of JNAC.

The city had many huge hoardings of every sort a range of organization, from residential associations to NGOs. Three years down the line, the number of flexes had only increased.�

Kumar further said, �The drive will continue until we get all the hoardings removed and any person trying to fix up the banners will have to pay the authorized fee.�

By removing the illegal hoardings and banners, JNAC is warning that those who put up these banners will have to face the legal action, and official informed.

There are over 400 unauthorized hoardings that have come up at various places at the intersections, on top of the residential buildings and commercial institutions in the city area.

�The Kadma-Sakchi straight mile road, Sakchi-Baridih main road, Bistupur-Jugsalai main road, Mango-Dimna main road and Sakchi-Golmuri main road have been identified as the major areas where unauthorized hoardings have been put up in large number,� said notified area authorities of JNAC and MNAC.

Incidentally, as per the Defacement Act of 1985 offenders are liable for steep fines going up to Rs 50,000 or imprisonment for six months.

The administration is again gearing up to start major exercise against putting up of illegal hoardings and cutouts at public places by political leaders, social organizations and other private bodies.

JNAC has around 25 hoarding slots in the city however we do not have idea about the number of legal hoardings of Tata Steel and police department in the city, a notified area officer added.
