Jamshedpur, Jan. 19: The city police on Tuesday claimed to have cracked the rape case of a 4-year-old tribal girl in Sidhgora last week.

According to the police, they have been successful in arresting the victim’s neighbor Tarun Ghosh, resident of Nandnagar in Bhuiyadih Kannu Bhatta, and recovered a blood stained cloth from his possession.

A four-member special police team led by deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Kirti Narayan Mishra raided the area and arrested Tarun Ghosh, son of Umesh Ghosh. Tarun has already confessed committing the crime, said Senior SP Anoop T Mathew.

Addressing press conference on Tuesday, the SSP said, after committing the crime on Friday, on the following day, Tarun again visited the victim’s house and threatened the girl’s father and mother not to inform any one about the incident. The girl is currently undergoing treatment at TMH under police protection.

Narrating the incident, SSP said, “On January 15, Tarun Ghosh had picked up the girl from her thatched house when her parents were reportedly sleeping inside after returning from Tusu mela that night. The girl was taken to an isolated place where the culprit committed the crime.

Locals spotted the girl crying near a bush on Saturday morning and informed the police, who then rushed to the spot and took the girl to the MGM Medical College Hospital, where the doctors referred her to Tata Main Hospital for better treatment.

The parents of the girl were unaware of the incident till residents informed them on Saturday. Police had already registered a case in this connection based on the statement of girl’s father and launched a manhunt to apprehend the culprit.

Significantly, residents of Kanu Bhatta blocked the Bhuniyadih Main Road for about four hours on Monday against the police’s failure to arrest the culprits.

The four-hour road blockade created hell of a situation for the commuters as small children, old people, men, women all came down on the road and protested against the district administration and state government. The protestors also burnt tyres at several spots of the area and stopped vehicles from crossing the area.
