Jamshedpur, July 1: An electrician, Sonu Mahato, lost his life due to alleged negligence of the electricity department near Mirudih in Adityapur. Following his death, family members created a commotion at Tata Main Hospital (TMH) in Jamshedpur, preventing the body from being moved and holding a departmental engineer hostage.
According to reports, Sonu Mahato was working on high-tension lines after a scheduled shutdown in Mirudih when the electricity was suddenly switched on. The unexpected surge caused him to fall and sustain a fatal shock. Despite being rushed to TMH, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
The family, upon hearing the news, quickly arrived at TMH and surrounded the departmental engineer present at the hospital. They demanded action against those responsible for the negligence and insisted on a compensation of Rs 25 lakh. The family, along with the leaders of JBKSS Saraikela, staged a protest at the hospital, refusing to allow the body to be moved or the postmortem to be conducted until their demands were met.
The incident highlighted concerns about safety protocols and the working conditions of employees from IPSG Manpower Supply Agency, who were operating in Adityapur 1 sub-division at the time. The protesters alleged that the Jamshedpur General Manager was neglecting safety measures, leading to the fatal accident.
