IIMM holds conference on ‘Indian Logistics – Enabler to Industrial Growth’
Jamshedpur, April 6: A.B. Lall, Head, Manufacturing, Tata Motors on Friday said, not a single company or institution is successful in the supply chain management without logistics.
‘Logistics today is very important but there is a need to make it more affordable and technologically advanced so that transport and inventory expenses can be brought down. The logistics expense in our country is much higher as compared to other countries around the world’, said A.B. Lall, addressing the inaugural session of the Eastern Regional Conference on ‘Indian Logistics – Enabler to Industrial Growth’ organised by Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM), Jamshedpur Branch, at Telco Club on Friday.
He further said that there is a need to focus on infrastructure so that better roads, rail, sea route and air services can be provided to the logistic industry which would bring down the expense which is need of the hour seeing the competitive market condition.
The key note speaker at the conference Amitava Bakshi, Chief Procurement Officer, Tata Steel, in a very simple way informed about the importance of logistics in the supply chain management.
Conference also deliberated the “Skill gaps in the Logistics Sector” and suggested the way forward.
Prof. Dr. T A S Vijayaraghavan a specialist in Supply Chain Management and leader in the area of logistics not only in India but also in South East Asia led the conference on the main theme.
Dr. Rabi N Padhi delivered his paper on “Way Forward Next Generation Innovative Logistics Supply Chain � Exploring Opportunity and Challenges”.
G.K.Singh National President IIMM, Dr. Rajiv Mishra Prof. of HR at XLRI Jamshedpur, B.N.Sarangi Ex-Chief HR Tata Steel & Consultant HR and Anand Dayal MD Indo-Danish Tool Room (ITDR) attended the panel discussion on “Skill gaps in the Logistics Sector – Way forward” which was moderated by Prof. Dr. T A S Vijayaraghavan.
More than 100 participants including senior officers of Tata Motors, Tata Steel, TSPDL and other industries from small, medium and large organisation in and around Jamshedpur were in attendance.
